5 Ways to Be Happier

5 ways to be happierMany people believe that their own happiness is dependent on other people or on material possessions. While these may bring us temporary joy, it’s just that – temporary. They don’t make us truly happy and, once the initial effect wears off, we’re right back where we started. You can have true happiness and here are 5 ways to get you started.

1. Believe you deserve to be happy

This can be difficult for many people, yet it’s so important. If you don’t find it easy to believe you deserve to be happy, ask yourself why or consider discussing you feelings with a professional. Changing your mindset can lead to many positive changes in your life. If your mindset is positive, positive things will happen.

2. Give What You Want to Receive

You get out of life what you put into it. So, if you want more love, compassion, fun, guidance or understanding, give those things to others around you.

3. Take Care of Your Body

Your body is an amazing thing, but just like anything else, it works best when you take care of it. Taking care of your body goes beyond a proper diet and regular exercise. Getting adequate sleep is also a large component of taking care of your body. Without adequate sleep, your body doesn’t function at peak efficiency, making you prone to irritability and even depression.

It’s also important to make sure that your body has what it needs to function. Taking a multivitamin daily can help provide your body with the vitamins it may be lacking. Getting outside can also help you take care of your body, as vitamin D is best when absorbed through the skin. The sun is the best source of vitamin D and exposure to daily sunlight can help stave off seasonal depression (use sunscreen, though!)

4. Let in the Good

Don’t be afraid of happiness. Even if it’s new to you, happiness is a wonderful thing and leads to so much positivity in your life. When we’re confronted with fear, adrenaline kicks in and activates our fight or flight response. Instead of running away (flight), stand up to fear and overcome it (fight). Your happiness is worth fighting for and you should never be afraid of being truly happy.

5. Remove Negativity

Negative people can drain you, physically and mentally, and provide little value. Stop subjecting yourself to negativity and unhappiness and you’ll see that it’s replaced with positivity and happiness. Think of it as cleaning out your closet; if it no longer makes you happy or doesn’t provide any value, it’s time to let it go. This can be difficult for many people especially as it applies to negative relationships. Always remember that you cannot change anyone else, only yourself.

Don’t let true happiness elude you any longer. You deserve to be happy and it’s not as difficult as you may think. Start with these 5 tips to increase your happiness today!
